Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Lisa McArthur-Collins — an autistic and dyslexic children’s author from Adelaide, creating stories that celebrate difference, inclusion and the beauty of neurodivergent minds.

🌻

What Do I Do?

I write children’s picture books, middle-grade fiction, and devotionals that encourage empathy, inclusion, and understanding of neurodivergence and hidden disabilities.

🌻

Why Do I Write?

Growing up, I often felt different and misunderstood. Now I use storytelling to help children embrace differences, build empathy and recognise the beauty in every mind.

🌻

Author Visits

I offer engaging author visits for schools, libraries, and community groups. Creating meaningful conversations about inclusion, kindness, and neurodivergent experiences.

What’s New

Little Fox’s Hidden Disability is a children’s story about understanding differences that aren’t always visible.

Little Fox is searching for something he can’t find… his hidden disability.

As he meets friends who use wheelchairs, hearing aids, and other supports, Little Fox begins to wonder why his difference can’t be seen. With Mama Fox's help, he discovers something important: some disabilities are felt, not seen.

School Visits

I love visiting schools, libraries, and community groups to share my stories and spark meaningful conversations about inclusion, empathy, and understanding differences.

My sessions are engaging, age-appropriate and designed to help children better understand neurodivergent minds, hidden disabilities and the importance of kindness and acceptance. Through storytelling, discussion and personal experiences, students are encouraged to celebrate what makes each person unique.

Visits can be adapted to suit different year levels and group sizes.

Supporting the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

A woman with glasses and brown hair smiling and holding a sunflower-themed badge at a disability event.

I’m proud to support the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and help raise awareness of disabilities, conditions, and challenges that may not always be visible to others.

The sunflower is a simple way for people with hidden disabilities to quietly show that they may need extra understanding, patience or support. Through my books and author visits, I hope to encourage conversations that help children grow in empathy, kindness and inclusion.

A portion of sales from selected books also helps provide sunflower lanyards to individuals and families in need. If you or someone you know would benefit from a sunflower lanyard but cannot access one, please feel free to reach out. We would love to help where we can.
